21st. | ComicKing

For as long as I've been reading comics, for about four years now, I've gone to my favorite local comic store, Coy's Comics. Originally owned by Dave Coy, and later sold, Coy's comics has been in business for over twenty-five years, and provides the greatest sales around town. Recently, it has been announced that they're going to be changing locations, starting Feb. 1st., to a much busier traffic area and into a building twice the size of the current. So it pretty much goes without even being said, a comic shop that's been around for over twenty-five years has quite a large collection of comics, cards, action figures, etc., right? Exactly. And so, recently, my brother and I had been drafted to help package some comics.

Maybe we shouldn't have been so quick to ask, but as soon as Steve (the 'new' owner of Coy's) asked if we could help out, the first thing that uttered out of my lips (and my brothers) was, "how much does it pay?" After contemplating some figures in his head, he told if we could stick around for two hours, packaging comics, he would give us fifteen dollars, store credit. Under those conditions, my brother and I agreed to work. Almost immediately after we began our work, he told us, to the one who works faster, I'll give an extra five dollars. This encouraged both of us.

So, about half way through our work, Steve told us we were doing a good job and asked we could come back tomorrow. My brother and I accepted, saying, "Under the same pay rate? We'll be happy to come back." And so, we came back the next day and finished packaging the rest of the comics. But, because there wasn't nearly enough comics to hold us there for another two hours, we finished up in about a half hour, and he offered us another five dollars for our work. Hands down, my brother worked faster than I, and so received the extra five dollars.

So, he rewarded us with two certificates, worth twenty and twenty-five dollars (store credit). Note, for privacy matters, I digitally erased all 'personal' information on the following certificate.

So, that just about wraps this post up. Thanks for reading, log back soon, and God bless!
